SONIC LIVE INDONESIA in collaboration with STUBHUB INDONESIA are thrilled to announce that "The most unique psychedelic funky punk rock,” Australian phenomenon POND, set their first time ever Jakarta show this November on their Upcoming South East Asia Tour 2017.
“Pond’s live show is comprised of spectacular moments… The psych-pop jesters spun old and new tunes into pure entertainment gold”. - San Francisco Weekly
Fronted by the enigmatic Nick Allbrook, and comprising Jay Watson, Joe Ryan and Jamie Terry, POND is becoming one of the West Coast’s most exciting exports, they have cut their teeth over the years touring with the likes of the Arctic Monkeys, MGMT and Flaming Lips. They have blown audiences away at some of the world’s premier music festivals including Primavera, Coachella, South by Southwest, Laneway Festival, Splendour In The Grass and more, and have sold out countless venues around the globe from New York’s Bowery Ballroom to Paris’ La Gaite Lyrique and London’s O2 Forum. POND shares members with fellow Perth outfit Tame Impala, with frontman Nick Allbrook contributing to both acts until 2013 and Jay ‘Gum’ Watson still a member of both.
Released in May, “The Weather” is POND’s seventh long-player, their own baffled, if ever madcap barometric reading of the geo-political situation (amongst others), in mind-bendingly excellent album form.
“Pond’s new album mixes bright synths, campy detours, and grim; It’s a document of a band knocking loudly on the door of greatness” – Pitchfork
“A band at a crossroads between independence and influence, and equally in thrall to the twin eccentricities of pop and psych. Just what they’ll do next is anyone’s guess, but we’ll all be sitting here waiting with open ears and baited breath. Rarely have they sounded so good.” – The Line Of Best Fit
Produced by Kevin Parker, the album’s title track “wakes slowly with drowsy percussion and swelling synths”, said Consequence Of Sound. “As the song picks up, there’s an easygoingness to the psychedelic electronics that breezes through a sense of heaviness throughout.”
With that album’s release the NME named them “The Hottest Band In The World” and in terms of activity it’s hard to disagree. They’ve since released another album, 2013’s “Hobo Rocket” and become one of the most acclaimed live acts in the world.
Any rock fan should seek out this band for whom the sky’s the limit, they’re nearing the top of their game, and look set to be something very special indeed.
"The falsetto-sung "Sorry I Was Under the Sky" and "You Broke My Cool" are parallel-universe smash hits, while other songs unearth either a weedy garage-rock madness or the idea of Iron Butterfly wrestling The Beatles in outer space." - Jay Watson (GUM, POND, TAME IMPALA)
